askHRgreen.org wants to help you keep the Grease Grinch from stealing your holiday joy with a $250 gift card for deliciously prepared favorites from Taste!

Follow askHRgreen.org's tips for a clog-free season. Your drain will be happy, the Grease Grinch, behaved!

• Can the grease. Pour used cooking grease into an empty, heat-safe container (like a soup can) and freeze it. Once it’s hard, toss the can into the trash.

• Scrape your plates and dishes. Wipe all pots, pans, dishes, and cooking utensils with a paper towel prior to washing to absorb the grease and remove food scraps.

• Catch the leftovers. When rinsing and washing dirty dishes, use a sink strainer to catch any remaining food scraps. Empty the strainer into your compost bin or trash can.

Bonus Tips for Those Who Deep Fry:
Deep frying can be a Grease Grinch booby-trap! If not handled properly, fryer oil is the fastest way to a clogged pipe and lead to a call to your plumber – who’s working at holiday rates. Save your dollars for holiday deals and dispose of used fryer oil in the following ways:

• Reuse it. Strain out any particles and freeze oil in the original container. Oil can be kept for up to six months and reused for up to six hours of fry time.

• Recycle it. Check for local fryer oil recycling options.

• Trash it. Turn oil into a solid by freezing it or mixing in unscented kitty litter, sawdust or sand. Keep oil in a sealed container and toss the hardened oil away on trash day.

• Be responsible. Never put fryer oil in any household drain or dump it anywhere outside including ditches and storm drains.

All the best from askHRgreen.org and we hope you don’t have a Very Grease-mess.
