It's "Techsgiving"!

The Carmel School, an independent college preparatory, K-12 coeducational school is
launching “Techs-Giving,” an event designed to help bridge the “digital divide” for US Veterans and K-12 students.
The robotics program will be collecting retired information technology (IT) from families and businesses and then
donating it to Tech For Troops where it will be securely data sanitized, upcycled and loaded with Microsoft learning
and productivity software, and then delivered to those in need.

Now through November 17, students, and families as well as community members can donate their old and/or non-
working desktops, laptops, monitors, keyboards, mice, tablets, and cell phones to be securely upcycled or recycled.

Drop off is at the school from Tuesday, November 10 until Tuesday, November 17 during the hours of 7:20 until 8:00
am.
“At the Carmel School we believe in participating in community service,” said Ms. Kember Forcke, Robotics &
Engineering Teacher. “The school is thrilled to team up with Tech For Troops to positively impact the work they are
doing to help veterans,” she continued.
Tech For Troops was started in Richmond, Virginia by a mother and son team who were passionate about military
veterans in need. In 2013, after hearing about the force reductions and a huge number of returning soldiers, they
decided to collect used PCs and Macs, refurbish them, and provide them to veterans’ support organizations. Since then,
Tech For Troops has grown to supporting veterans nationwide and continues to look for ways to offer support and
training.
“We are extremely proud to collaborate with The Carmel School on this unique initiative,” said Mark Casper,
Executive Director, Tech For Troops. “In our mission to empowering veterans with computers, skills, and information
technology (IT) work force training, education is a key component. The support we are receiving from The Carmel
School will help us assist veterans support organizations with updated technology and training to veterans in need.”
