I had the opportunity to talk to Commissioner Kenneth Hodder, National Commander, The Salvation Army

"Before the pandemic, one in six Americans were already living in poverty, and more than 70% of Americans were living paycheck to paycheck. While everyone has been impacted by the current outbreak, people living in poverty are feeling the effects quicker and more significantly.

With more people facing hardship this year, the need to serve those most vulnerable is greater than ever. Nearly half of low-income Americans report that they or someone in their household has experienced some sort of income loss. With unemployment rates expected to be between 10 to 11%, millions of parents will be looking for work come Christmastime. In fact, The Salvation Army anticipates that a new population of people living in poverty will result from the long-term impacts of this pandemic."
