It’s hard to believe it, but today (August 31) marks 20 years since the tragic death of Princess Diana.

The beloved Princess of Wales put the world into a state of total mourning after she was tragically killed in a Paris car crash.

The public's love affair with Diana grew as she dedicated her work to humanitarian efforts across the globe including the HIV/AIDS crisis, landmines in Bosnia and Herzegovina, childhood cancer, and other important issues.

Elton John, who was a dear friend to The Princess, is among those paying tribute to the late Princess today on social media:

Elton, of course, famously performed an alternate version of his song “Candle In The Wind” at Diana’s funeral in 1997. In fact, we still can't watch this video without tearing up:

Princes William and Harry dedicated a new garden to their mother yesterday to mark the anniversary. They were joined by Prince William’s wife Catherine to tour the Sunken Garden.

"The engagement will allow the Princes to pay tribute to the life and work of their mother the day before the twentieth anniversary of her death," Kensington Palace said.

It's not just famous folks paying tribute to The Princess. Folks across the UK (and the globe) are gathering to pay tribute to the Princess of Wales today:
