A new feature on Snapchat now shows your location whenever and wherever the app is being used. This is particularly alarming for parents as many may not be aware that their child's account is sharing this information.

The good news is that there are safeguards to opt out of the new feature, "Snap Map."

Users must OPT-IN to "snap maps," meaning your location won't be shared until you choose to share your location.

Beyond that, you can select to share your location with all Snapchat friends or just a select group of people. Experts have been concerned for a while that predators may pose as a teenager on Snapchat to make contacts. So just becuase you THINK you know all of your Snapchat followers, they may not be who they say they are.

Users who don't wish to share their location at all can go into "ghost mode." That blocks all users (including your friends) from seeing your location.
