March 13, 2017

We’re calling it: 2017 will be the year of Ed Sheeran. Yes, we realize that it’s only March, but 2017 will be the year of the UK’s most famous redhead. He's "killing it" musically, and now we've learned he'll be making waves on television later this year. Is there anything that this super talented 26-year-old can't do?

For starters, Sheeran is having massive success with his new album, ÷. The album keeps breaking all kinds of sales records. The song “Shape of You” has had massive success, and his newest single “Castle On the Hill” is destined to become another chart topper.

So what's next after you've totally owned the music world, and it's only the middle of March? The answer is television, apparently.

We've confirmed that Ed Sheeran will have a guest spot on the HBO show Game of Thrones this season. The show's creators David Benioff and DB Weiss told a panel at South by Southwest in Austin, TX this weekend that they had been trying to get Sheeran on the show for a while. Maisie Williams, who is one of the show’s stars, is apparently a huge fan of Ed Sheeran.

“For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie, and this year we finally did it,” Benioff said during a panel discussion at South by Southwest.

Sheeran confirmed the news on Twitter this Sunday (March 12).

It is not clear what role Ed Sheeran will play on the hit show. However, we do know that the show's 7th season will only have 6 episodes (Beinoff and Weiss also confirmed that at South by Southwest).

Season 7 of HBO's Game of Thrones will premiere on July 16.
