The George Floyd Protest

Protest for Justice has swept the nation. 

George Floyd's name has been added to a hastag we see far too often. Unarmed black men killed by police officers, neighborhood watch, etc.

George Floyd, 46, died while after being arrested by police outside a shop in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Footage of the arrest on May 25th, 2020 shows a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, kneeling on Mr Floyd's neck pinning him to the street. 

"I can't breathe" Floyd said repeateadly along with "please, please, please", but it seems like his pleads for help failed deaf upon first responders ears. 


Eight minutes and 46 seconds. For eight minutes and 46 seconds Former Officer Derek Chauvin kept his knee on Mr Floyd's neck, the prosecutors' report states. 

Former Officer Derek Chauvin has since then been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter charges.

Peaceful Protest

Protest in which began in Minnesota have spread all throughout the nation, they've even reached here in Virginia. Yesterday May 30th, 2020 hundreds of people spent part of Saturday afternoon marching through the streets of Norfolk. people gathered in front of the Norfolk Police Department's Operations Center on East Virginia Beach Boulevard. Many arrived there after marching in neighborhoods. The march began near Norfolk State University. Norfolk Police Chief Larry Boone joined the demonstrators. While peaceful protest in some instances have been allowed to be carried out others are met with tear gas, rubber bullets, violence, and arrest.
